Most of the computer hardware problem is always related to the computer’s motherboard. Why it can’t be, the motherboard is a part of your computer system where everything links to each other.     And that’s the reason why motherboard suffers the most, even because of some other faulty attached hardware; In this article, I’m only going to highlight the process of reflowing the GPU Chip of your computer’s motherboard. So, if you’re having a desktop computer who’s showing you some Vertical/Horizontal or maybe some colorful lines on your monitor screen, even when your monitor is working good in good condition on different computer; Or maybe it’s also possible that your board shows you blank black display and your monitor is saying something like ‘No Display Screen’ in front of you. And not just these two problems, you can also experience some unexpected shutdown, restarts, and sometimes because of this problem our system’s starts to showing some BSOD Errors too. Just because of this single chip you can experience a lot of different problem with your computer because this is the chip who actually controls your computer after the CPU. GPU Chip also know for its another name called “Chipset” because not just the graphics, this chip also handles a lot of different hardware too.

So, How Reflow Can Helps?

Because of the long use or working in the moistures surrounding, the Chip to the motherboard connection gets rusted or broke and make things harder for the motherboard to work properly. And that’s the part where reflow comes in; Reflow soldering is the most common process used by the manufacturers and the repair shops to mount electronic components on a printed board circuits, and reflow is the stage of “reflowing solder” where the solder or solder paste changes its state from solid to liquid at the high heat temperature to make solder joint on PCB (printed board circuits). So, this process helps your motherboard’s chip to regain its connection strength to work properly; And in this tutorial, I’m going to show you how you can easily reflow a desktop motherboard’s GPU (graphics) chip at home with common household kinds of stuff. Wanted to see this reflow process for Laptops/Graphics Card »How To Reflow Laptop Graphic Chip? « Or, »How To Repair A Graphics Card By Reflow Solder?« But first thing first, if you just having a no display problem with your computer then I’ll highly suggest you to check out my suggested tutorial below this paragraph, before you try to do anything with your motherboard. I’m only saying this because sometimes it’s possible this no display problem can be occurring just because of some minor hardware failure of your computer. So Let’s See How To Reflow The Desktop Motherboard;

Step 1 – Disassemble Motherboard: The first step you’ll need to do to start the process is to take off your computer’s motherboard from the computer’s cabinet. And please make sure your motherboard isn’t in under warranty because reflowing the chip can void your motherboard’s warranty. If warranty remains, then get it repair by the Manufacturer’s Authorized Service Center.

Step 2 – Find The GPU Chip: The easiest way to find the GPU’s chip on your motherboard, you’ll need to look for the biggest chip near to CPU Socket. In case your motherboard only has one big chip on it, then it means, that both north and south bridge chip are combined to minimize the physical coverage space of your motherboard and now you’ll to reflow that chip to make it work. Step 3 – Cover the Motherboard: In this step, you’ll need to cover the motherboard by using a metal sheet or you can use a foil paper and only expose the GPU chip. The reason behind this step because we don’t want to damage the others components on the motherboard while blowing the hot air directly on the GPU Chip. Step 4 – Maintain Heat: Let’s Preheat the Heat Gun to 385F (195C) with a normal air pressure. Step 5 – Blow Heat To The GPU: Now decrease the air-speed to the minimum and heat the GPU chip very slowly just only for about 4 – 5 min at 190-200 degree Celsius max and make sure you let the heat gun in little motion. I mean don’t hold the heat gun still on the top of GPU at the same place for even a single minute, just wave it a little. Note – High hot air pressure can blow away some of the little components from your GPU’s chip, so be careful and maintain the low air pressure with high heat. Step 6 – Let It Cool: Now leave the motherboard for a while and let it cool down for a bit, even how much time it takes. Step 7 – Testing:  Now assemble back your computer and test the motherboard by attaching all the hardware components into it. Hope, it works for you; Or in case, if your motherboard still doesn’t work after proceeding the whole process, then I think now you should need to repeat the whole stuff again, and this time, you’ll need to try it by increasing the heating time (and not the air pressure).
